Rental cars and the winter weather

As snow has decided to reek havoc on much of Britain over the past few days, the roads have become increasing dangerous to navigate and simple short trips have taken much longer than what they should have. One driver, Michelle Newton from London said that it had taken her four and a half hours to do a simple drive of just five miles in the atrocious conditions. Ms Newton added that she passed the time by singing Christmas songs. Another driver Ben Marshall from Luton had to make the journey from work in Milton Keynes back to Luton and described the roads as the worst he had seen for a long time.

With these bad conditions that have swept the country it is worth thinking if your journey is really necessary. If you have to make a journey you should first allow for plenty of extra time to get to your destination and drive at a sensible speed. Make sure your tyres are inflated to the correct pressure and there is plenty of tread on them. Pack your car with extra warm clothes as the cold weather could cause your car to break down. If it is snowing when you are driving along you should take time to stop and clear snow from your lights every so often. One of the most important things not to forget is the mobile phone, which is also fully charged.

Another option for important journeys is using a rental car as they will be kept in top shape all year round. Before cars are handed to customers they are given a full inspection to make sure they are road worthy, probably a lot more than what most people do with their personal cars each month. If you hire a car, take your time to look over it and get familiar with where everything is before you set off.
