Tourism leaders in Scotland are hopeful of an influx of visitors from Russia after a new travel show, featuring Scotland, is seen by millions of TV viewers in that country.
Earlier this month, a crew from a popular Russian TV show travelled around Scotland, taking video that will showcase the country as an attractive holiday destination.
Tourism officials are hoping to see that the travel show, expected to be seen by as many as 25 million Russian, will encourage the country’s middle-class tourist to spend their travel money on golf trips and luxury whisky.
Dmitry Krylov, the travel show’s presenter, and a Russian TV star, visited Scotland with the camera crew, travelling from the Borders to the Highlands.
Highlights of his tour will appear during a special feature on the popular and long-running series Neputevye Zametki – or “Travel Notes”, in English.
James Lakie, a spokesman for VisitScotland, expressed delighted over the endorsement: “Being showcased in a major travel show which is watch by between 20 and 25m viewers is fantastic news.”
He went on to say: “It will bring Scotland right to the forefront of Russian minds as an attractive holiday location. Because of this we are expecting to see a significant increase in the numbers of Russian visitors heading to Scotland in the coming years.”
