Ryanair, Aer Lingus angry at charge increase at Dublin

A recent proposal for a landing charge increase of 13 per cent for Dublin Airport has incensed Ryanair and Aer Lingus. However the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) said that if the new price came into effect their fees would still be among the lowest in Europe.
The new landing fees would come into force for the start of next year and would be only 96 cents per passenger. Even so there would still be another rise in charges after Terminal 2 begins operating scheduled for early 2010.
The new proposal has been put up for debate by the DAA before they make a final decision on the new charges, but Ryanair and Aer Lingus have already started a campaign in protest at the E10 travel tax. “’The DAA is currently investing €1.2 billion in new facilities to improve the passenger experience at Dublin Airport and deliver increased efficiencies for airlines, and has to be adequately remunerated for this investment programme,” said a statement on behalf of Dublin Airport.
In the past 20 years Dublin Airport charges have actually fallen by 30 per cent and the DAA added that they would still be one of the lowest in Europe; at least until 2014.
