Ryanair announce the commencement of five new routes

The low-cost carrier Ryanair has revealed their new winter schedule for Prestwick Airport in Scotland. The company said they will now be offering services to Alicante, Arrecife in Lanzarote, Las Palmas in Gran Canaria, and Palma in Majorca. March will also see a new route to Ibiza added to the list. However they are also canceling or reducing flights on six of their other routes from the airport.

The new services will see 100,000 more people using the airport for departures but that will be counter balanced by the same number not arriving into Prestwick. Frequency on flights to Tenerife south, Malaga and Faro will also see an increase for the next season.

“Ryanair is delighted to announce five new sun routes and increased frequencies on three routes to and from Glasgow Prestwick Airport, which will allow us to bring more low fares, more competition and choice to even more Scottish consumers and visitors. This expansion will now ensure the lowest fares to the sun for Scottish consumers compared to other high fare airlines,” said Ken O’Toole, director of new route development for Ryanair.

The expansion for Ryanair at Prestwick has been centred on Spain, mainly because the country has ditched air passenger duty so it is cheaper to fly there for consumers.
