Ryanair hikes prices
Posted on: May 19th, 2008 by Robert BergersonRyanair, one of Europe’s largest low-cost airlines, has announced new price hikes, in order to compensate for the carrier’s dramatically increased fuel bill. Specifically, passengers who check-in over the internet will now be required to pay extra for priority boarding. This essentially means that all those who check in online at www.ryanair.com, rather than at the airport, and wish to be among the first to board the plane, will pay the same €5 fee that is charged to those who use traditional check-in counters. The new fee comes into effect at the beginning of June. The Irish airline, however, emphasized that regular web check-in will remain entirely free of charge and Ryanair continues to encourage passengers to arrange this online, from the comfort of their own home, before heading out to the airport. Passengers can request priority boarding just about any time prior to the departure of their flight, including during the ticket reservation process, at home using Ryanair’s website, or at the airport.
Despite the new fee, Ryanair did announce an improvement. Passengers will now be able to modify the name on their e-ticket as late as 24 hours prior to the scheduled departure of their flight. The new service becomes available starting on June 3rd, 2008 and represents a real improvement for the airline. Previously, passengers who wanted to modify a name on their itinerary had to contact Ryanair’s call centre in order to speak with an agent.
