Ryanair leaves passengers stranded at Stansted

Hundreds of passengers who were trying to board flights at Stansted Airport at the weekend were left behind by their plane after staff failed to check in luggage in time. The low-cost airline Ryanair, had just 11 bag drop desks opened for 255 flights on Saturday, which was meant to be one of the busiest days of the year.

As queues for Ryanair went right out through the main doors tensions began to rise with some irate customers and police were called in to calm the matters. One man who was caught up in the mellay was BBC presenter David Dimbleby

“It’s a nightmare. Ryanair have abdicated responsibility. They have not spoken to any of these people, there have not been any public announcements and they have not said when the flights are called. The police are here with machine guns, supposed to be protecting us from terrorists, but they end up protecting Ryanair ticket sellers. It’s absurd,” said Mr Dimbleby

Ryanair were quick to respond to the problem and a company spokesman apologised on behalf of the budget airline saying the company that looks after the check-ins were short staffed which led to many people missing flights or having lengthy delays out of Stansted Airport.
