Ryanair offering free sports equipment travel
Posted on: September 30th, 2009 by Robert BergersonThis is not something that will be seen often, the low-cost carrier, Ryanair, offering a lucky few passengers something for free. However, for the next couple of days they will offer free carriage to winter sports fans who want to travel with the airline this season. Bookings must be made by Friday and then customers might save up to £80 for the transportation of their vital equipment. Skis and snowboards will be the only gear that receives the free treatment, as toboggans and snowmobiles would probably be too much.
This deal comes after just last month British Airways decided to withdraw their offer of free travel for sports equipment. Their offers ranged from skis and golf clubs to the larger surfboards and the likes. BA stopped the service and made it part of the checked luggage allowance with a maximum of one bag per person. This was met with much grumbling from many travellers who have enjoyed the freebie for a long time. It is only a long list of many operating procedures that BA have introduced to try and make a return to profit.
Within the last couple of months BA have stopped free meals on flights of less than three and a half hours and are now introducing a scheme where passengers can book their seat at more than 300 days in advance, for a charge. Anyone heading off for some winter action later this year should check Ryanair’s website now and see if they can take advantage of the free carriage of equipment.
