Schiphol Airport scraps departure tax

In a move that counters UK airports, Schiphol Airport has done away with its departure tax. It was only introduced in July 2008 and was €11.25 within the EU and €45 for all other destinations. They scrapped the charge last week after they noticed a decline in passengers using the international hub.
The UKs new charges from 1st November are set to increase up to £110 depending on where you are flying to. That is set to further increase next year to a maximum of £170 if the distance is 6,000 miles or more. The higher charges are surely to cut the number of long haul flight departing the UK, with passengers instead opting to travel to the Netherlands for longer flights.
The British government says the rates are rising in an effort to enforce environmental policy, cutting the UKs carbon emissions by a huge 60 per cent before 2050.
Schiphol Airport is gearing up for the expected influx of British travellers from the 1st November. Many Brits that are not located near London already favour Schiphol as a hub over Heathrow and next year could see folks from the south of England opting for a short journey to the Netherlands before an onward journey far far away.
