The 540-passenger, all-suite Silver Spirit, the newest vessel in the Silversea Cruises fleet, is undergoing it final outfitting in Italy before it is delivered to the luxury operator this December.
Its maiden voyage will be an 11-day “Holiday Spirit” cruise, sailing from Barcelona to Lisbon on 23 December. Shortly afterwards, on 3 January 2010, it will sail on the 16-day “Maiden Crossing” from Lisbon to Fort Lauderdale. The ceremony to official name the ship will be held in Fort Lauderdale on 21 January.
After the formal naming ceremony, the Silver Spirit will sail to New York on its “Grand Inaugural Voyage”.
From New York, it will embark on a 91-day “Spirit of South America” cruise that will stop at more than 45 ports in 20 countries and islands on two continents.
The new cruise ship will be the fifth in Silversea’s fleet, and will sail in the Mediterranean during the summer and the Caribbean during the autumn and winter seasons.
Manfredi Lefebvre, the company’s chairman, said: “This is the dawn of a new era of luxury cruising for Silversea and the industry at large. Much planning and collaboration has gone into the design of our newborn, and it is exciting both as a company, and personally, to see Silver Spirit evolve through the final phases of her construction.”
