Singapore Airlines cuts fuel surcharges for some
Posted on: November 5th, 2008 by Robert BergersonOn Tuesday, Singapore Airlines announced that it will reduce fuel surcharges on tickets for passengers travelling in economy and business class on its flights.
The reductions will amount to between $US4 and $US15 on flights from Singapore to Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia, East Asia, Europe, South Africa and North America.
Surcharges will also be reduced on flights operated by the carrier between Dubai and Istanbul and Dubai and Moscow, and also between Bangkok and Tokyo, the airline said in a statement.
Passengers travelling in first class will continue to pay surcharges that range from $US36 to $US100.
The airline commented about its decision to reduce the surcharges in economy and business classes, and not in first class: “This is to fairly impute fuel related cost since the space occupied and weight utilised in each class is different.”
The changes will go into effect on all tickets issued from Friday, the carrier added.
Singapore Airline’s regional subsidiary, SilkAir, will also be reducing surcharge amounts on economy and business class tickets from Friday.
Surcharge reductions are following the significant drop in oil prices from the high experienced in July of $US147 per barrel.
