Singer Lauren Hildebrandt accuses Luxury Hotel of Bed Bugs

Pop singer Lauren Hildebrandt is revealing that one of the biggest fears travelers in New York City are facing is bed bugs. The star revealed on a radio and press tour in Manhattan that she stayed many nights at a luxurious hotel in Union Square, but her bed was infested with the nearly indestructible blood-sucking insects. She said that the bites could be seen all over her shoulders and back.

Hildebrandt described that going through this experience is something she never imagined could happen in such a wonderful hotel. People need to be aware of the danger in New York City’s hotels right now, she warned. She couldn’t sleep at night, as she kept thinking about them being in her bed. She couldn’t wear a tank top or a bathing suit over the summer, she exclaimed.

Mary Maguire, the singer’s mother and manager, was with her daughter during the trip. In the hotel’s defense, they were very good in their response to the issue, she said. They said it was an early infestation, she added, but she is still freaked about the bed bugs while traveling.

They don’t blame the hotel for the bed bugs, as they are both victims of the outbreak. Even with an upscale hotel like this, which conducts weekly checks for the insects, including management spot checks, bed bugs can appear even in the cleanest room. These blood-suckers don’t discriminate when it comes to feeding and can be found anywhere. Infestations this summer have shut down many Midtown and other retail stores, offices for CNN, the Mid-Manhattan branch of the New York Public Library, the AMC theatre in Times Square and even Elle magazine.
