UK singer Morrissey has alleged he was groped by a security guard at San Francisco Airport as he was about to board a British Airways flight on Monday. The former Smiths’ frontman detailed the experience in his internet fanzine True To You.
He started out by saying that at about 14:30 he had gone through the normal airport security procedures, including the body scan, when the security officer stopped him. Morrissey said the guard knelt down in front of him and then it seemed as if he was having his scrotum and penis groped.
In the fanzine entry, Morrissey alleges the grope was a sexual assault and was witnessed by two BA airline staff. He continued by saying the staff urged him to make a complaint.
The singer said he challenged the guard and discovered he was the duty manager. He added that when he accused the airport staffer of assaulting him the only answer he got was that it was only his opinion.
Morrissey noted that as it was his body that had been touched up then the opinion had to have significance. He explained that, despite the fact the whole incident must have been captured on CCTV cameras, he didn’t expect anybody to face questions or be punished for it.
Morrissey finished off his fanzine post with the warning that anybody passing through San Francisco Airport should not be surprised if they were subjected to sexual abuse. As a codicil, he pointed out the entire charade was being carried out under the guise of security for passengers.
