The Sir Philip Reckitt Educational Trust (Spret) is urging applicants to pitch grants in an attempt to broaden their scope of aid. The well established organisation funds 300 applicants each year in Norfolk to travel and broaden their horizons through projects.
The charity funds individuals who wish to travel and provides subsistence for projects in the UK and abroad. The scholarship fund is geared particularly towards people from Norfolk as well as the East Riding of Yorkshire. Sir Philip Reckitt’s legacy supports the charity which was established in his honour after his death in 1944.
Projects which are applicable for grants are comprised of field trips, school outings, community projects, sustainable environmental projects, medical studies, as well as higher education and gap year travels. A spokesman for the Trust said that it is designed to allow individuals who wish to develop themselves further the means to do so.
He added that individual grants are only enough to warrant a small financial part of the person’s journey, but sometimes can be the difference between that individual being able to do so or not. Additionally, he said, that the fund contacts schools, organisations, and colleges as well to offer applications for funding for any projects that they may be considering.
The Trust requires no age limit, but it does require that the individual applicant truly be poised to benefit from the endeavor they are proposing to take part in. Grants from 2008 enabled visits to 36 different countries each representing a separate activity or educational endeavor.
