Descent International has enjoyed some of the most famous names on the planet as customers and yet it was unable to keep its head above water in the recession hit travel industry. David and Victoria Beckham, Rowan Atkinson, J K Rowling and many more have been known to use the services of the ski operator but its exclusive list of clientele was unable to save the company from going into voluntary liquidation.
Descent International follows in the footsteps of Indigo Lodges and Ski America, both of which have already gone under, and other ski operators have reduced their offerings in a bid to avoid the slippery financial slopes into liquidation. The reduction in holiday’s available means that there are fewer deals around and with bookings down almost 20 per cent, the ski industry looks sure to continue to suffer.
“It’s a very sad situation. We’ve tried very hard to save Descent, but in the end that has not been possible. I’m doing everything in my power to try and help those of our guests who have already booked with us for this winter,” said Kit Harrison chief executive of Descent. A total of 41 parties have paid deposits for the luxury chalets and great service that totals almost half a million GBP and it is unlikely that they will receive any of it back.
