Skiers get to Canadian ski resort faster
Posted on: December 25th, 2007 by Lisa DavidsonSkiers and winters sports enthusiasts can now get to Mont Tremblant, one of Canada’s most prominent ski resorts, faster than ever before, thanks to convenient regularly scheduled flights from Toronto and the New York City area. Porter Airlines, a regional commercial carrier based at Toronto’s City Centre Airport, has launched new direct flights from Canada’s largest city to Mont Tremblant earlier this December. One-way tickets from Toronto start at $99 and the plane leaves the City Centre Airport at 7:00am, arriving at the ski resort 70 minutes later. Porter also offers direct flights from Montreal’s Trudeau Airport, starting from only $49 for this 25 minute trip. Regularly scheduled flights from Toronto are available on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
In addition to Porter Airlines, Continental is providing American skiers and tourists more convenient access to Mont Tremblant, by offering daily flights from the Newark Liberty Airport, near New York City. These Continental flights are 90 minutes in duration and like Porter, the carrier will land at the Rivière Rouge-Mont Tremblant International Airport, situated 35km north of the resort. Serge Larivière, the airport operator’s president, told the Montreal Gazette that Continental “fell in love” with the airport and that not only tourists, but region’s 80,000 local residents stand to benefit, as they will now enjoy direct access to one of the busiest air travel hubs in the US.
According to Ski Magazine, Mont Tremblant is the number one winter resort in eastern North America. Over 15% of all visitors to Mont Tremblant are currently from the United States and Ontario, but most analysts predict that this proportion will rise, thanks to the new direct flights.
