South Korean bicycles around world promoting peace

A man from South Korea is riding his bicycle around the world on a personal mission to promote peace and global unity.
Okwhan Yoon, 47 years old, is experiencing a road to peace that’s paved with asphalt as he traveled from Florida’s Interstate 10 to Interstate 75, its path illuminated, with only the moon and his small bike light to show the way.
As the late afternoon turned into night, the cyclist mounted what he refers to as his ”trusted friend”, a red and blue Trek bicycle, to head off on another leg of his trip. In eight years, he has cycled in 171 countries, on one-lane streets, unpaved roads and highways, spreading his message of optimism, peace and unity – unity particularly for the two Koreas.
”I can close my eyes and picture different parts of the world and feel that we are all family,” said Yoon, when he was resting last week in the lobby of the Miramar Wingate Hotel.
Since arriving in Florida on March 20, Yoon has been cycling around Broward and Miami-Dade counties. Earlier, starting in December, he rode from California to South Carolina, and then to Georgia and down to Florida. He is now impatiently waiting for a visa that will allow him to continue his trip, in Barbados.
Yoon’s goal is to ride his bike through 192 countries, with the hope of learning why there are so many factors that divide people, when, he says, there are so many elements that can bind them together.
