Staff Trouble Brewing At Enterprise Rent-A-Car Boston
Posted on: July 13th, 2007 by Dave AndersonThe Enterprise Rent-A-Car outlet at Logan International Airport appears to be heading for some staff/employer relationship problems. A boycott of the car rental outlet is being supported by such notable figures as Senator Edward Kennedy and Senator John Kerry on Thursday of this week. The problem appears to be caused by what staff consider to be unsafe working conditions at the location that have not yet been addressed by the company.
The unrest seems to have been triggered when staff at the office signed union cards in the hope that this would lead to an improvement in working conditions and wages. Two weeks later Enterprise announced that it would be outsourcing their jobs. Enterprise was adamant that the timing was simply a coincidence as the plan to outsource the work had been in the pipeline for two years. The workers have taken the view that this move by the employer is simply a punishment for them joining the union.
The employees are very unhappy with their working conditions which they consider to be unsatisfactory. The company is accused of failing to supply the necessary protective clothing for staff using cleaning products. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) have been involved with four violations being recorded against the company involving hazardous working areas. Enterprise have responded by saying that protective equipment was available for their staff to utilise but that it had never been requested.
