Stansted Newquay route scrapped from October
Posted on: September 3rd, 2009 by Taylor SmithRyanair have confirmed that one of the flights they are discontinuing from Stansted is the service that flies to Newquay in Cornwall. The budget carrier announced in July that they were to cut back on 40 per cent of their winter flights from Stansted Airport because of the rising cost of landing fees and the increase in passenger duty.
The only reason this has been announced is because you can no longer book tickets on that route after the end of September. A spokesman at Cornwall tourism said that although it was disappointing that Ryanair were pulling out there were still other airlines that offer London based routes to Newquay. Gatwick Airport offers seven flights a day through Flybe and Air SouthWest.
Ryanair say that Stansted is one of the most expensive airports that they fly into and they go on to describe the passenger duty tax as tourist tax which is the main reason for them pulling out 40 per cent of their flights.
“Ryanair were forced to cut back service at Newquay due to the high costs at the BAA London Stansted Airport, plus the unjustified £10 UK Government Tourist Tax,” said a Ryanair statement on the closure of the route.
