Stone Roses Star Banned from Driving

Ian BrownIan Brown, the iconic singer of the recently-reformed Stone Roses, is now banned from driving due to being convicted of speeding through motorway roadworks at 93mph, where the limit was just 40mph. Brown was caught for the third time in four years.

Aged 48, the frontman appeared before magistrates in Stoke-on-Trent where a district judge described his speed as “off the scale”. It was on 12 October that he was caught on camera driving along the M6 near Stafford. Apparently, Brown was heading home to family in Chesire in his Lexus and initially denied the offence before later changing his plea to guilty.

David Taylor, a district judge, told the vocalist that speed limits are never imposed on motorways unless there is a very good reason for doing so and that suchs decision are always made in the best interests of public safety. Brown’s barrister, Craig MacGregor, said that his client mainly uses his car as a caring family man that often drives considerable distances to purchase groceries for his aging parents.

The court heard how “King Monkey” had initially denied his speeding charge, claiming that the cameras must have been wrong as he couldn’t have been travelling at 93mph. Brown was fined £900 and must pay costs of just over £1,015 in addition to being banned for six months.
