There are many car hire companies out there that now allow drivers to rent supercars. These are usually high performance cars that give people the ability to drive cars that they would not drive in real life. One 24-year-old man found out the hard way just how powerful these cars really are.
Reports show that a young man from Acocks Green recently rented an Audi R8 Spyder for £600 per day. He is now being questioned by the police on suspicion of dangerous driving due to the death of an elderly lady.
Police reports show that the old lady who died is believed to have been a grandmother by the name of Noreen. She died after the young man crashed his £100,000 Audi R8 Spyder into a Ford Fiesta. Police say that the crash happened at the intersection of Shafmoor Land and Redding Lane on Monday night around 11:30 p.m.
The police say that the driver of the Audi actually fled the scene of the crime. Here he left two women critically injured in the totally destroyed Fiesta. Of course, police did not have to search for the man for long. He later turned himself in to the police station 3.5 hours later.
Despite the fact that the paramedics were able to arrive on the scene quickly, they were not able to save the elderly passenger in the Fiesta. She died on the roadside from a heart attack. The driver of the Fiesta was a 50-year-old woman. She is currently being cared for at the Birmingham Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Here she is being treated for multiple injuries, but doctors believe that she will pull through.
The supercar that was involved in the crash was rented from Zadens Car rental, which is based in Birmingham. This firm is well known as an exotic car rental company. In fact, that is how the company describes itself. It is a place where people can rent exotic cars that are otherwise hard to find. The week before this crash happened, Zadens Car had been advertising the R8 Spyder on its Facebook page.
Zadens Car did not try to cover up the fact that the car was rented from them. A spokesman for the company said that it was definitely their car that was involved in the crash. He went on to say that Zadens Car will be assisting the police in any way that they can, and their thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the elderly lady.
According to Audi, the Spyder can go from zero to 60 mph in nearly three seconds. The top speed of the car is over 190 mph. The Spyder, which sports a V10 engine, is advertised as a car for people over the age of 28 to rent. However, the car gets rented out to whoever can afford it. The car costs £600 per day. It can be rented for a whole weekend for £1,400. The car does require a deposit of £3,000, which the driver gets back if the car comes back in good condition.
