SUV rentals become less expensive
Posted on: June 11th, 2008 by Andy SimpsonRenting an SUV is going to become less expensive than ever before for many car hire clients in the United States later this summer. Car rental companies are busily trying to convince Americans to rent a larger, comfortable SUV-which are ideal for families travelling together-during the Fourth of July long-weekend. The real reason why car rental companies are having to lower their prices for SUVs and why it is taking so much convincing to get Americans to hire these vehicles is because they are known to be gas guzzlers, in the true sense of the word. The record high price of fuel-which now stands at around $4 per gallon in the US-has caused many renters to forgo larger cars for smaller, more fuel efficient vehicles. As such, car hire firms are finding it increasingly difficult to rent SUVs and full-size cars that usually form a significant part of their fleet.
Although this situation may certainly be problematic for car hire firms, it could not be more advantageous for those who would like to rent an SUV, but until now have been turned off by the relatively high price of such a vehicle. Both Advantage and Fox Car Rentals, two US-based car hire companies, have decided to lower their rental rates for all SUVs, ahead of the Fourth of July holiday. While the normal daily rental rate for these vehicles stands at around $40 per day, clients can expect to pay well under $30 during America’s national holiday. As such, Advantage and Fox both seem to offer those who have always wanted to try out an SUV but could never afford it, the opportunity to rent one early next month. Yet it is well worth remembering, that whatever amount one ends up saving on the rental itself, will probably be spent on the sky-high price of fuel.
