After the recent World Travel Market in London last week the world’s body has decided that sports tourism is the way forward to pull us out of this recession. Talk of the upcoming World Cup in South Africa put smiles on people’s faces and the London 2012 Olympics was another strong point where the world could see tourism making a comeback on the global market.
World number tennis ace Rafael Nadal has now also stepped in and said he aims to make the Balearic Islands one of the number one spots for sports tourism. He is currently fronting a campaign for his homeland about which is aiming at their typical sun, sea and sand. However, the tourism board for man’s native home has seen a drop in UK clients this year and wants to solve the problem now.
The falling economy of the world has not helped this situation and the rising cost of the euro has made UK holidaymakers seek trips outside of the eurozone. The tourism board for the region said they wish to make potential holidaymakers aware of the great golf facilities the island offers year round. Other sports on the island are also popular, many of them water based, but with Mr Nadal on board you could well see some excellent tennis centres go up.
Majorca was particularly hit in the height of their summer period by bomb blasts which left two police officers dead and other injured. There have been no more blasts and a stronger police presence has helped safeguard the area.
