The first cruise ship to be launched this year
Posted on: July 21st, 2009 by Martin FellowesCelebrity Equinox will be the first cruise ship that is launched from British waters this year. The boat which can carry almost 3,000 passengers will spend the following few weeks in Southampton docks as the party carries on.
“For the UK to be hosting the inaugural celebrations of Celebrity Equinox demonstrates the importance of the British and Irish markets. The reaction of UK consumers in terms of bookings is strong with sailings during all peak holiday periods sold out,” said a spokesperson for the owner of the ship, Royal Caribbean.
The launch has come at a time when people that take cruises have leveled for the first time in ten years. Last year saw a massive 1.5 million Brits taking a cruise which amount to an 11 per cent increase compared to that of 2007, but the Passenger Shipping Association said they expect the number to stay the same this year.
The ship is equipped with all the usual offerings like a casino, a vast collection of restaurants and bars to choose from and uniquely it has an area of real grass that is larger than eight tennis courts and can be used for a whole multitude of activities from boules to outdoor concerts.
