According to a study just released, the French really are gourmets who enjoy their leisure time, spending more time sleeping and eating than citizens of any other wealthy nation in the world.
The average person in France sleeps approximately nine hours nightly, which is an hour more than the average person in Japan or Korea, who sleep the least, according to a survey conducted in the 18 member countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
Even though they are known for their siesta habit, people in Spain rank third in the sleeping results, after Americans, who were found to sleep slightly more than 8.5 hours nightly, on average.
Although it was found that increasing numbers of people in France are opting for fast food, they spend an average of over two hours daily eating.
This figure means that meals in France are twice as long as those in Mexico, where people spend only an hour per day eating.
The Japanese, although sleeping the least and spending long hours commuting and working, still managed to spend around two hours each day eating and drinking. This ranked people in Japan third, behind New Zealanders.
