Third Heathrow runway faces court action

The plan for a third runway at Heathrow and a new terminal are to have legal proceedings pushed against them from environmentalist groups, local residents and councils in the area. The will argue in the High Court that the consultation process was flawed because not only will a new runway take away a small village, it will also have consequences on a much wider level bringing a once peaceful area into noise and pollution. In court they will challenge the plans on an environmental level saying that it will affect the climate change goals and that is a lack of public transport to be able to cope with the further development.

The group claims that the decision to expand Heathrow Airport was nothing more than a quick-fix solution to an old problem. The airport is already full with flights coming in and out all day long and this would enable them to open more landing slots for more aircraft. More of us are travelling by air these days because of how cheap it has become, and Heathrow is also an international hub and one of the cheapest in Europe compared to its local rivals. Adding the additional runway and terminal will increase the traffic flow to the area. This is why 90 per cent of those that did respond to the consultation were against the plan, it made no difference though and the UK Government gave the thumbs up. The Government have not said much, except they will defend themselves in court.
