Both Thomas Cook and British Airways are considered to be among the top brandnames in the United Kingdom, according to this year’s so-called “Superbrands” survey. The poll examines the prominence, popularity and name recognition of the country’s main brands and compiles a top 100 list each year. British Airways made it to fifth place, right after Google, while travel giant Thomas Cook found itself in a respectable 72nd place, out of hundreds of brands in the UK. This is an especially encouraging result for the company, if it compares it to the standing of some its largest competitors, such as Kuoni, which found itself in a very distant 340th place. Even better news for Thomas Cook, was that Expedia came in at 401st place, while LastMinute.com only made it to 476th.
Simon Carter, Thomas Cook’s executive director, pointed out that this prominent travel agency has been steadily improving its standing on this list over the course of the past several years. In fact, each year it has moved up in rank and the current result represents the best score ever achieved by the company. Carter argued that one of the reasons why Thomas Cook has become so popular in the UK probably has to do with the fact that the firm was at the forefront of a movement to provide Britons with an additional bank holiday. Carter believes that thanks to this move, his company is seen as a “consumer champion.”
