Thomas Cook UK has announced that the cancellation of its trips to Cancun, Mexico will continue through 18 May; and Thomson and First Choice have cancelled all flights to the Mexican resorts of Cancun and Cozumel through the 14th of May.

When the Foreign Office issued its warning against non-essential travel to Mexico, UK travel operators allowed customers the choice of rebooking their holidays at a later date, choosing an alternative destination for the same time period or receiving a full refund of their payment.

Thomson and First Choice Holidays have offered their customers, who are scheduled to travel to Mexico through 22 May, a discount of £100 on selected holidays to both the Dominican Republic and Jamaica.

British Airways continues to operate service to Mexico four times weekly, but the carrier is allowing passengers scheduled to travel over the next week the opportunity to rebook to a later date or to another BA destination.

Earlier this week, the World Health Organisation (WHO) confirmed that the H1N1 flu – more commonly known as the swine flu – has infected 4,379 people in 29 countries around the world.

Last weekend, the third death from the flu was reported in the US. Costa Rica also confirmed one fatality, and Australia, Japan and Norway reported confirmed cases of the flu.
