Over 200 workers in Thomas Cooks’ Cresta, Swiss Travel Service and Tradewinds call centre are full time and based in Accrington.

When My Travel of Rossendale, merged with Thomas Cook last year there were almost 3000 jobs lost nationwide and the company stated that the staff in Accrington would be fine.

The executive director of Thomas Cook Holidays, Pete Constanti said: “We have an excellent team in Accrington, and it must be made clear that the proposals are in no way a reflection on our people or their performance. We very much hope that many of them will opt to take advantage of our relocation and redeployment opportunities in Peterborough, Bradford or Brighton. We are fully committed to supporting them throughout the consultation process.”

Most employees have been given upto three months to discuss moving to other offices in the UK. The majority are expected to move by the end of the year.
