Thrifty adds GPS devices to the Oman car rental market

Thrifty became the first major car rental firm operating in Oman to provide renters with GPS navigation devices. This form of satellite navigation will be especially useful for foreigners who rent vehicles in the Gulf country, for use in travelling in rural areas and from one city to another. These GPS systems will reportedly offer precise directions for clients driving both along the coast, as well as in more mountainous areas located further inland.

Sam Eltibi, the Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group’s executive director, observed that his firm has developed into the region’s “market leader” and that clients looking to rent cars expect a “consistently high standard of professionalism.” Eltibi also suggested that Thrifty’s regional client base is now comprised not only of professionals looking for rentals during business trips, but also leisurely clients who need car hire solutions on private trips and excursions.

In addition to announcing the availability of GPS navigation devices in Oman, Eltibi also introduced Mehdi Jaffer, the new managing director of Thrifty’s regional partner, the Al Haditha Group. Eltibi expressed his full confidence in Jaffer’s ability to play a leadership role in the firm and also noted that he would be key in terms of further developing Oman’s tourism industry; an area where there is still plenty of opportunity for growth. Jaffer is no stranger to the world of cars and rentals, as he has been employed by major firms in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

Thrifty’s main location in Oman is situated at the Muscat Airport and offers car hire services each and every day of the year, and twenty-four hours a day.
