Thrifty becomes one of the largest car hire firms in South Africa
Posted on: September 10th, 2007 by Martin FellowesTourists visiting South Africa are well-advised to rent a vehicle if they plan on exploring this vast country, much of which is not yet well served by public transportation, but does have a modern network of roads. Over the years, Thrifty has become one of the largest car rental firms in this African country, with a total of 2500 cars on offer and outlets at most airports and in nearly all major urban centers.
Thrifty has both economical, as well as luxury vehicles on offer in South Africa and the company has expanded to serve two key types of customers. The largest group is comprised of tourists, keen on exploring the South African coast, or the rugged countryside. Another group of renters, however, are made up of businesspeople that need reliable, elegant vehicles to transport them to business meetings in the country’s most populous cities.
Rental cars offered in South Africa are among the newest anywhere in the world, thus ensuring the safety of customers and the reliability of vehicles rented out by the company. The vehicles are all less than one year old and most have very low mileage in them. Although Thrifty has been in business for more than 26 years, it has played a respectable role in South Africa’s transition from the Apartheid regime to inclusive democracy and majority rule, starting in the early 1990s. Since then, Thrifty has been a so-called Black Empowerment Entity business.
As in Europe, North America and much of Asia, all car hires in South Africa can be booked online, using the Thrifty website.
