Toilet problems on Cathay Pacific
Posted on: November 27th, 2009 by Martin FellowesA series of mysterious toilet blockages has plagued the carrier Cathay pacific over the past two weeks. One flight even had to make an unscheduled landing after their toilets became unusable. A spokeswoman for Cathay Pacific, Carolyn Leung, confirmed the reports that were published in the South China Morning Post by saying that three of their jets had been subject to problem toilets.
The first was on the 17th November when a flight from Riyadh to Hong Kong had to make a diversion to Mumbai when flight attendants discovered that none of the 10 toilets were operational a short while after take-off. This flight alone was forced into an 18-hour delay on just a short eight hour flight. Two further flights to Hong Kong from Rome and Dubai also had problems which resulted in not all passengers being able to board the planes after it was discovered that some toilets were not working.
Miss Leung said that the airline was not aware of what was causing the blockages yet, but thought it maybe to do with what passengers place down the loo. She said in the past they have discovered medicine bottles, items of clothing and even children’s toys in the pipes when they have been emptied. The airline has called in Airbus engineers to try and solve the problem and they are replacing pipes on the affected planes. They will also carry out a specialist cleaning job of all the other systems to try and flush out the problem.
