Total EV poll reveals Brit drivers ready to accept electric cars

EV Smart FortwoA poll commissioned by Total EV has found more than half of the UK’s drivers expect to have switched over to electric powered vehicles by 2023. A total of 1,000 Brit drivers were quizzed for the poll on the expected transition to EVs.

Males seemed more receptive to the change as 60 per cent said they would be willing to change to EVs whereas only 42 per cent of women said they would. This gives a median percentage of 51 per cent across both genders.

Surprisingly, ever-increasing costs for fossil fuels was the main reason for the willingness to embrace EV technology. It outweighed concerns over environmental degradation. The number of motorists who stated they would switch due to high petrol and diesel prices was 45 per cent while preserving the environment only attracted 36 per cent of the vote.

Charging accessibly was also important as Northern Ireland drivers were 77 per cent in favour of the changeover to EV. Chargers are more commonplace here than in the rest of the UK.

Total EV carried out the research to mark its launch as an online source for all EV and hybrid-vehicle related matters. Total EV founding partner Daniel Green explained that EVs were the way forward.

Green continued by saying the survey showed British motorists were ready to scrap their reliance on traditional fossil-fuel powered vehicles. He finished off with the codicil that Britons were ready and waiting for improvements in EV infrastructure and a huge increase in the number of EV’s on the nation’s highways and byways.
