Three of the largest tour operators in Britain are reported to have the worst flight delays in the UK.
Holidaymakers travelling on First Choice, My Travel and Thomas Cook flights last year had more than a ten per cent change of being delayed, according to figures that were just released.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is reporting that 15 per cent of flights on Thomas Cook Airlines, which trades as My Travel were delayed by an hour or more at UK airports last year. More than 4,267 flights were affected.
On First Choice Airlines, 811 flights, or 13.5 per cent were delayed last year, while Thomas Cook saw 356 flights, or 12.5 per cent, delayed by more than an hour.
Air India had the worst performance overall, however, with 20 per cent of its flights experiencing delays. Other carriers that performed poorly in terms of punctuality included Eurocypria, with 18 per cent of its flights delayed and Qantas, with 16 per cent of its flights affected.
Norman Baker, the transport spokesman for the Lib Dems, blamed the delays on the lack of government imitative in increasing airport efficiency.
Baker said: “It is unacceptable. But instead of demanding higher standards, the Government’s focus has been on expanding Heathrow rather than providing a better service for passengers.”
According to Thomas Cook, its punctuality performance has improved significantly in recent months.
