Thailand’s tourism authority is teaming up with other organisations and private travel operators in launching a local tour programme for transfer passengers at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Passengers with less than 12 hours between flights are the target of the new scheme, which offers 15 tour packages at prices that start from 1,850 baht. The programme is set to run until 31 May 2011.
Those who choose to take advantage of one of the tours available will not be charged an additional 500 baht airport tax at check-in.
Organisations supporting the scheme include the Association of Thailand Travel Agents, Airports of Thailand, the Immigration Bureau and Thai Airways International. Passengers who are just passing through will be able to enjoy a brief introduction to Bangkok, or to the nearby provinces of Chachoegnsao or Samut Prakarn, the chairman of the tourism authority, Weerasak Kohsurat, said.
The chairman said: “I strongly believe that this project will be welcomed by international tourists. This will help the tourism sector and some operators, particularly small firms, survive the downturn.”
All transfer passengers at Suvarnabhumi airport will be provided with tour information during their flight and brochures will also be available in the Transfer Hall.
