Figures released late last week show that things are on the up-turn for Abu Dhabi as the number of hotel guests grew significantly. The Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) said they had achieved a two per cent rise in hotel guests in 2009 compared to the previous year and that is quite some going considering the economic crisis that was in full swing.
They looked after 1.5 million people in their hotels last year and many of these can be put down to citizens of the UAE holidaying closer to home as many people did around the world. Out ot all the hotel guests last year in Abu Dhabi numbers show that 42 per cent of them were domestic guests, a rise of 26 per cent against 2008.
Back in 2004 the Arab state had a total number of tourists just under one million and this number has been growing steadily ever since. It is becoming a more and more popular place to visit to visit from people all over the world and especially from the UK. It prices have also been going up though making it a little tighter to spend on luxury rooms and gifts when holidaying there.
New developments have helped to boost the tourist figures last year substantially with fascinating buildings and hotels and a similar man-made island like the one in Dubai. The growing trend of holidaymakers picking Abu Dhabi looks set to carry on in the same direction and will be very much welcomed by hoteliers in the region.
