Tourist strive to use holiday to lose weight
Posted on: January 22nd, 2008 by Jean AdamsMany Canadian tourists appear to be multitasking when they go on holidays. Not only do they see these getaways as a great way to relax and explore a different culture, but they also believe that travelling is a great way to lose weight and come back home in better shape. A stunning 86 percent of Canadians told a travel trends survey conducted by Travelocity.ca that they plan to stay active and engage in some form of exercise when on vacation. As part of this goal, 52 percent of Canadians noted that they planned to visit cities or resort that would allow them to spend plenty of time outdoors walking or engaging in other recreational activities. A total of 14 percent of survey respondents indicated that when selecting a hotel, they tend to look for one that offers a gym or fitness room. Finally, 36 percent of Canadian travelers noted that they would find a way to remain physically active, even if their hotel or resort did not offer these facilities. While exercise appears to be an important part of a holiday for the majority of Canadians, eating healthy meals while away from home also tops the list for most tourists. A total of 35 percent of Canadians indicated that they would consciously seek to avoid unhealthy, fatty meals while travelling and fully one quarter of Canadians plan to steer well clear of fast food restaurants when they go on their vacation later this year. A significant minority (18 percent) noted that they plan to bring their own food from home, or may prepare their own meals, in order to ensure that it meets their dietary requirements. All of this concern with eating healthy and keeping fit even while on vacation may just indicate that Canadians are more committed to their New Year’s resolutions than ever before.
