Tourists heading to Greece drop this year

The number of foreign tourists to Greece and the surrounding islands has fallen by 8.1 per cent for the first seven months of this year, which is much in line with the rest of the world.

The total number of travellers arriving at the airports in Greece fell to 5.9 million from January to July compared with 6.4 million in the same period last year. Although these figures have improved on the half yearly figures which were down by 9.6 per cent, the tourism industry is still struggling along.

Tourist numbers are down for the country, but revenues have fallen even further with some tourist related industries like hotels, having to cut prices just to fight with the competition.

However with the pound and the euro constantly fighting out it out at the minute and the euro coming out on top, many holidaymakers this year have been leaving destination choices until the last minute. Greece is slowly climbing the ladder along with Turkey because of how far the pound will go in the local currencies.

Another winner in the last minute tourist sector has been Egypt. Its sunny climes and great value for money has seen it boom in the last few months. All-inclusive trips in all the three countries have seen a reemergence from the dark as British tourists are looking to cash in on their pound and get real value for money trips.
