Travel advice delivered to your mobile phone

There is a new email and text service that will provide travel advice and messages direct to your computer or mobile phone completely free of charge, it will even contact you in emergencies while you are away at your chosen destination. The great new service has been provided by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) who wish to ensure that all British travellers have all the information they could need when travelling off to a foreign clime. All holidays that are booked through the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) now have the option of signing up for the service.

It is called ‘Know Before You Go’ and the FCO will send you tailor made information to your email account about the destination. Details will include, customs, do & don’ts among other check lists that will assist with travel to the country. If there were to be an emergency at the location where the travellers were staying the FCO would send a text to the recipient at no charge to find their location and offer assistance and aid if necessary.

As well as the FCO sending a starter email customers will also receive an email from ABTA advising them on medical attention before departing if they need any inoculations, travel insurance and any last minute check lists. Both ABTA and the FCO are delighted to be working together to offer this free service for everyone. They say that most people now take a mobile phone abroad with them and it is the easiest way to contact them should there be a problem.
