Travel cover a must for holidays in Turkey
Posted on: August 20th, 2008 by Samantha WilliamsA strong euro has sent Brits by the thousands to look for holiday destinations where their pound will go farther, and Turkey has recently emerged as one of the top spots, combining the lure of the seaside along with reasonable prices, according to a report by M&S Money.
M&S Money figures show a 53 per cent increase in sales of Turkish Lira, and now the number of UK holidaymakers enjoying their annual trip abroad is topped only by Russians and Germans.
Last year, close to two million UK tourists visited Turkey and numbers this year are set to increase by at least 20 per cent, according to the ABTA.
The head of travel services at M&S, Fraser Millar, commented: “The huge increase in sales of Turkish currency is not surprising, with the relative power of the euro against the pound meaning Brits are getting more for their money by opting for destinations like Turkey.
“This trend is confirmed by the fact that there has also been a large increase in sales of Egyptian currency this year,” added Millar.
As Brits begin to skip the traditional continental destinations for more ‘exotic’ holiday adventures, making sure that travel insurance is comprehensive enough to meet all possible needs becomes increasingly important.
