Travel firm specialising in accommodation collapses
Posted on: October 8th, 2008 by Samantha WilliamsBluebookonline, a Kent-based holiday accommodation specialist, is the latest travel operator to fall victim to the current economic downturn.
When it cease trading on Tuesday afternoon, the travel company cited ‘difficult trading conditions’ as the reason.
The firm was founded in 1996, and offered accommodation for options for long-haul destinations, such as Australasia, the Caribbean and North America.
A statement has been posted on the company’s website, informing customers of the collapse and advises travel agents who have paid for accommodation in advance to contact the trust account trustee, Marryat Reader & Co. Bluebookonline was not Atol-protected but it confirmed on the website that payments already made for accommodation were protected under terms of the trust.
The travel company provided accommodation for operators such as Tailor Made Holidays and Advantage Travel Centres, and had call centres in based in both Dublin and Cairo.
In the past several months, around 25 Atol-protected firms have failed, according to Civil Aviation Authority statistics, and dozens of airlines have collapsed during the same period.
On Tuesday, Ryanair’s chief executive, Michael O’Leary, suggested that one British airline was likely to fail in the coming weeks and that two additional carriers would be grounded before the year ended.
