TUI cancels flights to Mexico

On Tuesday, TUI Travel cancelled all of its flights to Cancun, Mexico and confirmed that it would repatriate its customers from the country, as tour operators across Europe are diverting holidaymakers away from Mexico as swine flu concerns grow.
TUI units Thomson Travel and First Choice will not be resuming flights to the popular Mexican resort until the Foreign Office changes its travel advice, the company said in an email.
Thomas Cook and Sol Melia are allowing their customers booked on Mexican trips to change to other destinations.
So far, over 150 people have died in Mexico from flu-related causes, and the World Health Organization (WHO) has raised its global pandemic alert to level four, indicating that it is no longer possible to contain the disease.
“Following the change to Foreign and Commonwealth Office advice on travel to Mexico, it is with great regret that both Thomson and First Choice Holidays have taken the decision to repatriate their customers and cancel today’s outbound flights to Cancun,” TUI said in its statement.
Mexican holidays account for 2-3 percent of TUI Travel’s revenue.
