Turkey holiday specialist collapses

A specialist in Turkey holidays has failed, according to a statement made by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
ScotTravel Holidays, with head offices in Bellshill, Lanarkshire, collapsed while around 1,500 of its customers were travelling abroad.
The CAA has reported it is in the process of making arrangements that would permit the tour operator’s customers to finish their holidays and then return home.
Anyone scheduled to fly out on a ScotTravel holiday is being advised that all departures have been cancelled, and they should not go to the airport expecting to travel.
ScotTravel sold most of its holidays through travel agents, but some were purchased directly from the operator’s website.
The company’s statement on its website read: “We regret to inform you that as from 4 June 2009 ScotTravel Holidays has ceased trading. Any customers with enquiries should refer to the CAA website at www.caa.co.uk. For any forward departures passengers should not make their way to the airport.”
One customer who was scheduled to go on holiday next week said to BBC Scotland that they had been contacted and were told they would see a refund in three to four months.
Frances Tuke, speaking on behalf of travel association ABTA, said: “We know that there are roughly 1,500 people in Turkey at the moment. The CAA are very busy organising, making sure that those customers can continue with their holiday out in Turkey and will try and make sure that they return at a similar time as they were due to come back anyway.”
