Turkish Airlines has become part of the Aeroplan family, Canada’s largest loyalty and air miles points program. Aeroplan members are able to collect and redeem points for air travel, hotels, entertainment, a range of gifts and other services whenever they use their Aeroplan credit card or fly with Air Canada. Turkish Airlines, however, has now become Aeroplan’s newest partner and thanks to its addition, a total of 30 carriers are now affiliated with the rewards program. Craig Landry, Aeroplan’s vice-president in charge of products and services, noted that travel redemptions remain hugely popular among cardholders and that in 2007 alone 1.5 million round-trip tickets were issued to members, out of a total of 2 million rewards. According to the most recently published estimates, 5,500 redemptions are offered each day.
Now that Turkish Airlines has agreed to partner with the program, Aeroplan cardholders will be able to spend their reward points on tickets issued by this carrier. Turkish Airlines has been in business for more than 72 years, making it among the oldest surviving commercial carriers in the world. Turkey’s national airline presently operates a fleet of 102 planes, but has an additional 59 Boeing aircraft on order. These will likely be delivered within the next two years.
Aeroplan members can collect points by making purchases with Visa cards issued by the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), as well as by applying for an Aeroplan account through Air Canada and purchasing tickets with the country’s flag carrier.
