Two million Britons travelling abroad over Easter

According to ABTA figures, two million Britons are heading abroad over the Easter bank holiday.
The association added that domestic tour operators in the UK are also reporting an excellent season, with some seeing double-digit increases over the same holiday period last year.
It also claimed that in March ABTA members who sell holidays abroad experienced a major surge in bookings for both the Easter holiday and the summer.
Top choices among holidaymakers for destinations abroad include Spain, the Canary Islands, Turkey, Egypt and Tunisia. Cuba has recently become more popular as holidaymakers are keen to visit before the US government lifts its ban against its citizens visiting the island.
Florida is the top long haul destination for families so far this year.
Mark Tanzer, the ABTA chief executive, said: “We knew consumers would have a tendency to book late this year with many people worried about their financial situation, and not wanting to commit too far out.”
He added: “But as holiday time looms, people are indeed booking. It appears consumer confidence is rising, and people feel they have enough money in their pocket or just simply have had enough of worrying and have made the decision to go on holiday.”
