Two men on board the NorthLink ferry vessel Hrossy, one passenger and one crew member, were injured on Wednesday morning when high seas off Shetland cause the vessel to roll heavily.
After the ferry docked, they were taken by ambulance to the Gilbert Bain Hospital, in Lerwick, Shetland.
The ferry departed Aberdeen on Tuesday at 7:00pm on its scheduled Shetland service. According to passengers on the vessel, by the early morning hours the cross became uncomfortable due to strong winds and heavy waves. The winds were reported to be force nine.
A passenger on the ferry, Richard Flemming, a resident of Burra, said: “At 6am the boat took a heavy roll and I believe there were two people injured. An engineer in a white boiler suit fell over in the engine room and damaged his shoulder, and I believe a second guy fell down some stairs and damaged his head. They were taken off the ferry by ambulance before they let any of the passengers off.”
Louise Mouat, another passenger on board the Hrossy, added: “It was okay until five or six o’clock in the morning, when you started skipping around in your bed. I really didn’t like it and my nephew woke up as well. Mum fell out of her bed at one point. No, it wasn’t very good.”
