UK airports and schools suffer after heavy snow strikes again

Hundreds of schools across the UK have been closed after a snow storm hit parts of the country yesterday. Airports have also been closed and flights have been massively disrupted in both Manchester and Leeds Bradford airports. Although both of these airports have since re-opened their doors, many flights are delayed and cancelled and no flights are currently coming in or out of Blackpool International. The bad weather has led to many deaths and another man died on Sunday on the M60 when two lorries crashed head on in the snow and ice.

The Met Office has issued many severe weather warnings and people have been advised to only travel if it is absolutely necessary. Birmingham Airport was closed for a few hours and many flights are still affected and John Lennon Airport closed and re-opened throughout the day that has led to the cancellation of many flights. It is likely that the snow will continue to fall until Wednesday and some parts of the country are under the harshest weather warning available from the Met Office with Hampshire, Dorset, Oxfordshire, Swindon, Berkshire, Southampton and Wiltshire all badly affected.

East Anglia and London are also likely to get snow and more than 100 schools have been closed in Devon and Cornwall as bus services were cancelled and heating systems failed. Greater Manchester and Lancashire schools suffered the same fate as did West Yorkshire, Northumberland and Tyne and Wear. Roads are also being shut off and it is advisable to check which roads are open before setting off on a journey and to only leave your home if it is really necessary.
