UK and Irish carriers launch new routes

British Airways, Ryanair and easyJet, some of the largest airlines in the United Kingdom and Ireland, have announced the launch of several new routes, ahead of the busy summer holiday season. EasyJet, for example, has announced the establishment of five new routes, including service from Edinburgh to Nice (France), Glasgow to Faro (Portugal) and flights to Split, on Croatia’s increasingly popular Dalmatian coast. Three of the new routes will be based at the Bristol Airport, and easyJet anticipates that it will be able to fly more than 47,000 passengers on these flights each year.

Earlier this week, British Airways also announced that it was expanding its short-haul service. The carrier sent out a press release announcing the start of a new route to Dublin, from London’s ever more popular City Airport, in the Docklands. Later this year, the UK’s flag carrier also plans to open up a new route from the Docklands to Nice, as well as to Edinburgh.

Ryanair is hardly one to be left out of the game and as such, the Irish low cost carrier announced some expansion of its own. The airline will start offering regularly scheduled flights from Stansted to Rimini and Beziers starting in June. Additionally, travel experts also advise Britons not to discount continental low-cost airlines either, such as Spain’s Clickair, Hungary’s Wizz Air and Slovakia’s SkyEurope. Most of these carriers maintain a strong presence in the UK, and offer competitive rates on the most popular routes.
