UK holidaymakers need to be aware of local laws

Half of all British women who sunbathe topless on holidays abroad say they do so without checking local laws first, according to the results of a new poll.
What this means is that hundreds of thousands of women on holiday run the risk of trouble with local law enforcement, the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office has warned.
The survey also learned that one in seven men said they have had sex in a public play while on holiday abroad.
Holidaymakers are reminded by the Foreign Office to check on local customs and laws before taking any risks, particularly following incidents such as the high-profile arrest of the British couple charged with having sex on a Dubai beach.
One in 20 British men have reported “mooning” or “streaking” while on holiday, which means that a half million holidaymakers have risked being arrested and fined, the Foreign Office said.
The Foreign Office added: “In Corfu, there have been various cases of British nationals being charged with indecent public exposure for ‘mooning’, often at local police,” adding: “Problems do often spring from Brits visiting countries with unfamiliar laws and customs and falling foul of the law without even realising they have done anything wrong.”
