Those people who are choosing to ‘staycation’ this summer will have to pay through the nose for everyday living as Britain was found to be the most expensive destination in Europe.
The average daily spend is around the £71 mark for everyday items such as eating out, postcards and entertainment, a survey by Teletext Holidays discovered. Compare that to Turkey which is £10 less including the package holiday means on a one week holiday and that gives you an extra day or some more bargain duty free shopping.
The survey took the average cost of a half board late deal in a three star hotel in Turkey and compared it against a week self catering in the UK and come up with these amazing figures.
“It’s easy for people to assume that it’s cheaper to stay in the UK or that they should avoid the eurozone because the weakness of the pound makes it expensive, but that is not necessarily true. Everyone should look carefully at the board basis for a holiday to see which meals and drinks are included,” said Alison Steed, a independent money expert who assisted in producing the cost comparison.
There has also been a rise in all-inclusive bookings this summer with Brits being savvy about how far their pound can get them.
