Jurys Inns has launched a recruitment drive, seeking 800 new employees for 10 new hotels they will be opening.
Twenty-five per cent of the jobs, as many as 200, are targeted for workers who have been unemployed for long periods, as part of a new government scheme.
The hotel chain has said that it wants to hire 100 of the new staff for management positions.
Jurys Inn is not limiting its search for staff to any specific profession or country. What the hotelier says in required is the fundamental quality of ‘friendliness’.
It believes that hospitality is more relevant currently than ever before, as consumers are expecting better value in difficult economic times.
The group intends to open seven hotels this year, increasing their room numbers by more than 1,700. Locations include Aberdeen, Dexter, Exeter, Portsmouth, Prague, Swindon and Watford.
Additional hotels will be opened in Bradford, Glasgow and Newcastle in 2010.
John Brennan, the CEO of Jurys Inns, said: “We offer careers not jobs and want the 800 friendliest people in Britain to work in our new hotels.”
He added: “As a response to increasing unemployment we expect to recruit from a diverse range of backgrounds and personalities. Only those prepared to go the ‘extra mile’ for the customer will succeed. We look for qualities not qualifications. We hope to get talented people who normally don’t think about hospitality.”
